It's always a good idea to watch the movie to get ideas for planning a themed party, but if you don't have the time for that, just watch the movie trailer. Luckily there have been 3 other Shrek movies, so I'm sure you remember what type of place Shrek and his friends come from when you are deciding on food and decorations for the party. I know how parents don't have a lot of time to drive all over town searching for Shrek party supplies, so I have created this blog to help you get your party ideas and supplies at one place. My daughter had a Shrek party when the third movie was out and a lot of the ideas I used then can still be used now. I knew she had to have a green cake, so I found a recipe for a key lime cake by searching online. The kids were really surprised to see green when I cut them a piece. I figured some kids may not like the flavor of key lime, so I also made dirt cupcakes to keep with the swamp theme. Just make regular chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing and top with crumbled Oreo cookies (this is the dirt). Cut gummy worms in half and push a couple into the top to make it look like the worms are coming out of the cupcakes. Another good swamp touch is having some sort of green beverage to drink and call it swamp punch. I made a lime punch using lime sherbet. To make it extra swampy, add a few of the gummy worms to the punch bowl or freeze plastic bugs or spiders in a few ice cubes.

At the time of my daughter's party, I couldn't find any Shrek decorations, so I used green and purple crepe paper and balloons. To finish off the look, a few Shrek balloons would look great. Don't forget a Shrek 4 table cover for the table or you may want 2 if you are having a large party, one for the food table and one for the present table. I also bought rubber insects and snakes to decorate the table. Then when the party was over, the guests got to pick a few to put in their gift sacks to take home with them. Discount Party Place has the gift sacks along with stickers and blowouts to give to the guests as well. To see the Shrek party supplies mentioned here just click here. You can also make artificial vines from twisted paper grocery bags or check your local craft stores and hang them from the ceiling. Create a forest out of cardboard by painting trees on them and placing them around the room. You can also use cardboard to paint some of the Shrek characters on and place around the room. A kiddie pool can be used as the swamp. Just throw some rubber snakes and frogs in and it's ready to go.

For a few activities for the guests, you can print off free Shrek coloring sheets from the internet. Make a bunch of gingerbread cookies and have them decorate them. Of course pin the tail on Donkey would be very fitting. Guests could also make their own Shrek or Fiona masks out of paper plates painted green.

Don't forget the Shrek invitations and thank you notes along with other party supplies like plates, cups, and napkins! These party supplies can all be found at www.discountpartyplace.com at discount prices.
